Hyperscale cloud certifications in the IT services sector have skyrocketed over the past three years.
Why it matters: Enterprise demand for cloud modernization is at an all-time high. Much of this modernization is taking place on hyperscale clouds. However, effectively exploiting hyperscale cloud capabilities requires expertise in building and supporting a new cloud-based architecture. Enterprises are increasingly turning to the IT services sector to source this expertise, and providers are dramatically ramping up their hyperscale cloud certifications to meet demand.
Background: Through our ongoing research into hyperscale cloud ecosystems, we analyzed the three-year growth trend of certifications for AWS, Azure and Google Cloud at more than 70 IT service providers.
The details:
- Hyperscale cloud certifications grew by more than 300% between 2020 and 2022.
- Of the total cloud-certified workforce at providers, over 50% have Azure certification, over 30% have Amazon Web Services certification and 8% have Google Cloud certification (see Data Watch).
What's Next: Enterprises are already evaluating service providers based on their capabilities and track record deploying and supporting the new cloud architecture. The ramp up in certifications follows this demand, rather than indicating future demand. However, more than half of enterprises use more than one public cloud – and more plan to use multiple clouds in the future – which will continue to increase the demand for certified resources.
